 Benthic Invertebrates Taxonomic Workshops


​We offer workshops, usually lasting 1-3 days, on the identification, sampling, preservation, mounting, and pining of macroinvertebrates and insects.
                    Introduction to Identification of benthic invertebrates
The three-day workshop will cover topics such as Introduction to Aquatic Invertebrates (benthic); Where to Find Them (sampling methods and collection); How to Preserve; Morphology 101; Orders of Aquatic Insects; Microscopy and How to use the Dichotomous Keys
Chironomidae taxonomy
The three-day workshop will cover topics such as Introduction to the family Chironomidae (Subfamilies of Chironomidae); Collecting, preserving, and rearing Chironomidae; Slide preparation and mounting; Morphology of larvae; How to key out and identify Chironomidae larvae (Macroscopic characteristics to sort to subfamilies and tribes and to key out the mounted larvae to genus and/or species)
